Current Clinical Research Directions on Temporomandibular Joint Intra-Articular Injections: A Mapping Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

This mapping review aims to identify and discuss current research directions on intracavitary temporomandibular joints (TMJs) injections. The inclusion criteria allowed studies published in the last full six years, based patients diagnosed with joint disorders (TMDs), treated by TMJ intra-articular Medical databases covered Association for Computing Machinery, Bielefeld Academic Search Engine, PubMed, Elsevier Scopus engines were searched. results visualized tables, charts, diagrams. Of 2712 records identified following selection process, 152 reports qualified review. From January 2017, viscosupplementation hyaluronic acid (HA) was best-documented injectable administered into cavities. However, a significant growing trend observed number of primary centrifuged blood preparations administrations that surpassed previously leading HA from 2021.

Intra-articular injections with corticosteroids and sodium hyaluronate for treating temporomandibular joint disorders: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION In some cases, conservative treatment of internal derangements of the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is considered little responsive. Thus, it is necessary to accomplish treatments that aim at reducing pain and improve function in patients who present arthrogenic temporomandibular disorders. OBJECTIVE This study, by means of a systematic review of the literature, aimed to analyze ...

Arthroscopic treatment for intra-articular adhesions of the temporomandibular joint.

PURPOSE To introduce arthroscopic surgery of intra-articulator adhesion of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) upper compartment and evaluate its effect. PATIENTS AND METHODS One hundred forty-two patients (159 joints) with intra-articular adhesions confirmed by arthroscope were treated with lysis of the adhesions, intra-articular cleanup surgery, or capsule radiofrequency catheter ablation. On...

Palpation Versus Ultrasound-Guided Acromioclavicular Joint Intra-articular Corticosteroid Injections: A Retrospective Comparative Clinical Study.

BACKGROUND Primary osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common cause of pain arising from the acromioclavicular (AC) joint. The true incidence is unknown because of differences in the criteria used to define arthritis in various studies. The proper diagnosis of AC joint OA requires a thorough physical examination, radiographic findings, and a diagnostic local anesthetic injection. OBJECTIVE The go...

Intra-articular adhesions of the temporomandibular joint: Relation between arthroscopic findings and clinical symptoms

BACKGROUND Intra-articular adhesion (IA) is one of the important pathologic signs of intracapsular temporomandibular joint (TMJ) diseases, but this factor has been rarely described with respect to its arthroscopic characteristics and histology. The purpose of this study was to describe the incidence and distribution of IA in patients with internal derangement (ID) and to investigate the correla...

Clinical utility of ultrasound guidance for intra-articular knee injections: a review

Intra-articular corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid injections provide short-term symptom amelioration for arthritic conditions involving structural damage or degenerative changes in the knee. Conventional palpation-guided anatomical injections frequently result in inaccurate needle placement into extra-articular tissue and adjacent structures. The purpose of this review was to determine the eff...
